The Scandalous Lana Del Rey [music]

Apparently I am a little slow on the uptake, but I just heard Lana Del Rey's hit single Video Games and instantly was a fan. I don't know if it was the tubular bells at the beginning, the cinematic orchestration and the snare drum that starts at 2:32, or the video that won me over, but I am a fan of it all.

The music blogosphere is in uproar, accusing Lana of being a "fraud" and a creation of lawyers and music company moguls. Sure, Lana Del Ray is a stage name (a combination of Lana Turner and Ford Del Rey), but many celebrities use stage names. Whoopi Goldberg's real name is Caryn Elaine Johnson and nobody is accusing ole' Whoopie of being a fraud.

She won a Q Award this past October and her single "Video Games" was Song of the Year pre-release, and her first UK show sold out in 30 seconds. Apparently some people must like her, even if the music blogosphere doesn't.

Who cares if she is a product of the music industry? It's not like the music industry has never invented a “product” before – why the big scam over Lana? And who cares if she sounds like Betty Boop in her interviews?

Lana previously released an album under her real name, Lizzy Grant. Now do you see why she changed it?

Ryan Gosling Band's Creepy Music Video [celebrities, music]

Ok, I apparently was the last one to get the memo, but Ryan Gosling has a band called Dead Man's Bones. And they made a creepy music video with a choir of zombie children.

Obsessed Paula Abdul Fan Commits Suicide Near Her LA Home [celebrities]

I'm not quite sure how this one got past me, but Paula Abdul-crazed American Idol hopeful Paula Goodspeed committed suicide outside of Abdul's Los Angeles home in November of 2008.

Celebrity stalking is nothing new, sadly neither is death of a celebrity as a result of said stalking, though this is one of the first times I can recall a stalker/fan committing suicide near the home of their "beloved."

Here is Goodspeed's 2006 American Idol audition (her singing is not to be missed!):

This is an incredibly sad story, especially since Andy was so young and about to have his first child in a month with his wife.

What is Wrong with John Stamos? [cocaine & underage women, that's what!]

John Stamos allegedly had oral sex with a 17-year-old girl while she was on spring break in Florida back in 2004.

This same woman is now being charged with trying to extort Good Ole' Uncle Jesse to the tune of $860,000 because she claims she has pictures of him with strippers and cocaine.

The FBI found no such photographs after searching the defendant's residence. Stamos declined to comment to the AP but attended the trial's opening day and is expected to testify.

Countess LuAnna Has "Class," but Can't Sing.

So, in the spirit of Atlanta Housewife Kim Zolciak, New York Housewife Countess LuAnn has recorded her own single, "Money Can't Buy You Class," and it is as awful as you imagined.

Here's Kim's single, "Tardy for the Party," which is wildly popular with the gays (no one said gays had good taste in everything!).

Speaking of gays and Kim Zolciak, it's been confirmed she's been bitten by the ghey bug herself- she's now dating ATL DJ Tracy Young.

Kirsten Dunst is Made of Awesome.

I've had a life-long crush on Kirsten Dunst that started at 12; in essence it is she who can be credited with awakening my young sexuality. Anyways, a decade after the release of Jumanji, and she is still quite busy.

She is set to star in Lars von Triers' latest sci-fi thriller "Melancholia"
, which is set to film in southern Sweden July through September.

She also co-wrote and directed a short film, Bastard, which will premier at the Tribeca Film Fest and was just accepted into the prestigious Cannes film festival in France.

Go, Kirsten!

celebrities and self injury

i recently read an article about celebrities cutting themselves. while self injury is a social problem that definitely needs to be addressed, i do not like the way megan fox so lightly described all teenage girls as "dabbling" in cutting, as if this was a healthy, normal thing that all teen girls go through. i wish she didn't have such a casual attitude about it.
